Bath Bombs!

I wrote my first article for CBC Parents about making bath bombs with your kids! Here's a link to the article (more pictures and detailed instructions)! Bath bomb-making is really easy and fun.

If you live in downtown Toronto, The Nuthouse (Bloor St. West) carries everything you need. If not, your local bulk store will likely carry the ingredients, but call ahead to make sure they have citric acid. Otherwise, many online soap-making shops carry the ingredients (and who doesn't love delivery).

Finally, if things go sideways during production (which is nearly impossible), simply forego all steps except for one: administration of food colouring. I've been known on many occasions to holler, “First one to the tub gets to drop colour in the water." You can't lose!

You can hide stuff!

Nailed it? I failed miserably making fancy spheres with my kids. I'd stick to molds, simple cookie cutters and muffin tins.

I never managed to extricate the bath bombs from complicated cookie cutters (like the squirrel), but instead decided to make the cutter and bomb a joint gift! The kids and I also added candy dragées to a few of our animals (what can I say, we were also making gingerbread cookies), but this is totally optional.

Head over to the CBC Parents website for the instructions!
